Like if you bring him on little fetchquests you can get his approval up easily. But if the Inquisitor didn't bother to help people here and there while Cole was around for it...

(Of course if he was friends with Solas I can see him finding him or just hiding in secret around Solas but being like FUCK THIS GUY and vanishing whenever the Inquisitor was around or somethin.)

On my second playthrough I sided with the Templars + made them full allies and my first convo with Cole was the one where he gives you the warning that if you screw up any more he's out.

oh man every choice solas's inq made results in great disapproval (especially halamshiral: gaspard emperor and celene dead? cole is v unhappy). i'm not sure where that tipping point is, but cole definitely left

(So I dragged him to fetch quests in the Hinterlands because I was pretty sure I'd ally with the Wardens and HE WOULD PROBABLY LEAVE IF I DIDN'T GET HIS APPROVAL UP FIRST.)

then you know what okay. let's do this: let's throw out the tdm stuff (EVEN THOUGH I LOVE IT) and go with solas not remembering cole aside from having a few niggling feelings of familiarity
