the deal with augments is even if a character has previous knowledge or skill in a thing, a person with the augment for it will always be better at it

for example, if a medical doctor shows up without a lab support augment, they won't lose their original knowledge... it will just be waaaaay less useful than it would be normally

and some schmuck with a lab support augment will be better at it

so, theoretically, he could be taught how basic piloting works, but the ship/everything else will never acknowledge him as a pilot, and he won't ever be good at it, compared to someone with a pilot aug

when we talked about this before i apped him we said everything would probably look alien to him and his augment would prevent him from figuring it out

but nagito could sit him down and tell him

"hey this is how it works"

and that'd work?

since he's not blindly groping around

he'd get the gist of whatever he was shown, but whether it's actually inexplicably alien or just seems that way because of his augment, the information wouldn't stick as well as it should

generally having trouble learning anything past basics

and can't become more skilled at piloting than someone with the augment

so it's partly the system actually being alien to everyone, partly his augment maybe fudging the system and handicapping him, and partly pilots being given a huge automatic boost in understanding from their own

and for docking
