{ 1 } this is the great thing: it doesn't. well, no, it does. evilavellan took a lot of the stories of the elves being stripped of their power/strength/whatever to heart and decided that would NEVER EVER

happen to her

and so she will knock everyone and anyone out of her way to make sure she has the power to keep herself safe, whatever that looks like. of course, in doing this, she's making herself unsafe

and that delights my evil, twisted soul

{ 2 } her immediate family is 100% dead and has been for a while. mom caught a sickness of some kind and died when she was a child, dad was gored by an animal in her early teens

her relationship with her Keeper is super strained, obviously, because evilavellan is the elf who is like "humans have ventured too close to our camp let's torture them and kill them"

a fairly sizable portion of her clan at least feigns respect for her because she is brutally strong, and most people will at least casually appreciate her honesty, except not how brusque she is

her clan definitely didn't realize how determined she is to obtain power for power's sake because she was so limited there; it wasn't like she could be Keeper since she isn't a mage

naturally, most members of the inquisition HATE her. she makes decisions cassandra tends to approve of, but cassandra definitely doesn't like her motivations
