Today I learned what "jumping the shark" is. I'm kind of embarrassed not to have know it already.

And I only learned it because literally two press used it back-to-back (but separately) to describe FURIOUS 7.
my favorite is that henry winkler jumped over a shark again in arrested development

TheSouthernBelle: Had to google that too. Allegedly, there's a difference between the two.. Jumping the shark refers to ridiculousness of plot points, whereas nuking the fridge refers specifically to

ridiculousness of or reliance upon special effects. My guess is they're probs used interchangeably though.

I also associate shark jumping with longer form entertainment than even a movie series of four, i.e. tv shows mostly.

The sort of thing that happens to even good shows around season 4 or 5 when they run out of ideas.
