What was it?

The traditional aperitif here is heavy on the anise. Apparently it's like something from Turkey because a conversation about Istanbul followed.

and....stewed tomatoes. My mom used to make them with cabbage. terrible.

Ugh I hate anise, too. That's why I never drink ouzo.
