i think i gave it a 2 on goodreads
i thought that after the initial shock/scandal of it wore off it wasn't AS terrible, but still terrible
I get what she was doing with it
I don't know, I don't think it was poorly written, I think the whole grotesqueness of it all was so you feel cheated in the end when she continues to do what she does.
She's trying to say that society has a double standard in how it treats pretty white female offenders
oh i agree, i think she's a talented writer
right, i looked up the case that inspired it after i finished reading
She made Celeste a sociopath that you hate, and it was graphic so you would know to hate her
Which, I find interesting
right, it was uncomfortable being in her head
but also i just kept thinking and wondering about the author
how she was able to go there, to that place in her mind, whilst writing this
that must have been wearing
well, if you were not in her head, say you were also in the kid's heads too
you might fall into the trap of thinking they wanted it
which, you kind of can see, they did to a degree, but she was a predator
i dont know what i was expecting from it but i wasnt expecting the ending
but then after i looked up the RL case i was like oh well thats why
i kind of knew what case inspired it, so I figured she'd get away with it
i think it was just startling at first, to be in the mind of a sociopathic predator, it felt very real
which i mean, good job author
but when i read about murder and stuff, the most you hear FROM the murderer is a quote here or there, i've never read anything like a diary or from their perspective for a length of time
yeah, i mean, that makes you think a bit, but I didn't bother thinking about it much
i think american psycho is first person
so that book was just uncomfortable, and she dove right into it so it was like OH right from the start
you know what though, i read that and it didnt have the same effect on me
and maybe just because we're so used to men being the predators/murderers
maybe because it was a man?
so for it to be a woman introduced a whole new level to it
i don't regret reading tampa, but i don't think i needed to either. i still don't know entirely how i feel about it and don't want to think about it too much lol
but do you really need to read anything?
i'm kind of surprised it was sold on amazon
I read awhile ago that there are a lot of self publishers that write stuff with pedophiles as a target audience, and so their books get taken down
and i can kind of see how this book would reach that kind of audience
despite what the author is meaning to do with it
