This weekend was excellent! The home feels properly warmed after the party. Now, to keep it cool as summer approaches. Thinking of replacing my existing thermostats, as these seem to be of age.

I would have to get two of them, so not anytime soon.

We use one of these: Radio Thermostat works very well and has app access and a log of when things were running or idle.

You can two of them for the cost of one nest, and there's no monthly fee.

Having never replaced something like this before, how hard is it?

Super simple. no need to cut off power even. The only gotcha with these devices is they require that the bundle of wires has one that is powered.

The device has a battery but the batteries aren't enough for the wifi radio. our apartment had the extra wire but our house didn't.

May be able to find a rebate for purchasing a Nest. GA Power has $100 rebate: https://community.nest.c...

My biggest issue is the main floor's vents are all in the floor. That cold air just doesn't go anywhere, really. I am not sure if changing this equipment will be a solution, but I hope it will help manage it.

That rebate is for homeowners, looks like.

Close main floor vents.... let cold air flow down from upstairs.

Upstairs vents run on a different system.

The split system is a good one, except for those vents in the floor.

One thing I have noticed with these units, is that when I set it for say, 72, once it gets to 72 it continues to keep blowing air to maintain it, versus shutting off.

The thermostat we have has a tolerance you can set. Set it to 72, and once it reaches 72 it won't turn back on again until it drops 5 degrees below.

See, something like that would be awesome. Get it to the desired temp, and don't try to regulate unless there is a big difference.
