So I have a question that might be dumb but is also serious. So I'm looking a friends photos on Facebook and below every photo it says 'copy right blahblah 2015' not 'copyright blahblah 2015'
it doesn't have the symbols instead just has the word misspelled. so if someone took his photos could they have a case?

I don't think so, no. The copyright exists with or without notice, so I doubt that constructing "copyright" as two words would have any bearing whatsoever.

I find a lot of people do crazy things because of what they heard once. POST THIS OR FACEBOOK WILL TAKE AWAY YOUR RIGHTS.
Also, copyright notice USED to be required. If you published something without notice you were out of luck. A lot of people believe that this is still true.
yes my dad is still very careful to make note that his music is copywritten, but he also files everything with the copywrite office.

About notices?
In order for your work to have copyright protection, one of the things you used to have to do is put a notice in the work: © 1948 Polly Paperclip.
If you didn't, the work was public domain and had no protection.
Nowadays the notice is optional. It's protected either way.
You should still put the notice in, but you no longer have to fear losing control of your creation due to a clerical error.
The notice became optional in 1989.
