I'd forgotten all about usted...

I went with the 's'il vous plaît' rather than 's'il te plaît'... oh well problem solved. I also made hotel reservations. It wasn't pretty but it was the right hotel.

Hotel would likely be quite forgiving of a good solid attempt anyway
