So Thursday a feral cat came in under one of the rescues we work with. It was in a cat trap and we were supposed to neuter him and check because he might be pregnant

Yes those pronouns are correct. I didn't talk to the lady that dropped off the cat but it was definitely implied that he was pregnant

Now in the trap he didn't look healthy but that's not uncommon seeing as they're usually scared and dehydrated. But he fell asleep really quickly

His abdomen was really distended and fluid filled. When I checked with a needle I got urine back, but I was nowhere near the bladder.

Then we were thinking he might be blocked but when the dr made the incision on the testicle to neuter him, fluid just started pouring out

It was clear gross viscous fluid just pouring out. We checked the other side of the abdomen and found more fluid there

So then we were thinking fip, which is fatal in cats. We called the rescue lady and got permission to put him down. The poor cat had fluid in his heart and lungs as well.

So we euthanized him and not five minutes later the lady that dropped him off called swearing at my coworker

I got on the phone and apparently this is the actual owner, the rescue was just paying for stuff. And she doesn't believe in euthanasia

So she's pissed, which is understandable but there's no way in hell she would have been able to treat this cat.

If she couldn't afford basic care like neutering and vaccines she couldn't afford treatment for a fatal disease. Or even diagnosing

But she wanted just to remove the fluid and take him home...tbh I'm glad we put him down because he was suffering outside spreading it to other cats

I just wish she would stop calling to yell at me because I don't feel bad. I'd rather the cat not die a slow death.

Now she wants all this testing done which is fine but it's not free...

Just...i wish I could just not believe in her
