they are giving it free for the first year only. This way they don't have compatibility issues down the road just because people couldn't afford to buy the operating system

I wonder how much it will cost after the first year. I always side eye Windows and usually wait till the last possible moment to upgrade.

yeah but you even get the upgrade on a dodgy copy of windows, probably more likely they want everyone on board with windows store
