presumably those results are coming back because "protein," "fish," and "vegetables" are all suggestions for dealing with carb cravings? Not relevant because those are WHAT I'm craving
But this has got to mean something, right? Don't suddenly, out of the blue, start having cravings for what people would usually consider health foods at 9 or ten at night...
Shouldn't Google be giving be back a big red flag saying "you're not getting enough ____!!"?
It means you're hungry. Go eat.
But I do eat. I don't think I'm hungry. It's not like I don't eat enough. And it's not food in general.. It's fish. Who suddenly craves fish at night?!
It's not like hunger.. it's just a sudden need for salmon or tuna.
I'm still sorta perplexed by hunger.. I always thought it was the stomach thing, but then there was the weirdness during my whole30 that I think was either irritation or reflux or something
calcium? I thought I was getting calcium. I have almond milk, and eat a decent amount of cheese.. I guess I should have more cheese.
I guess I'd better pay more attention to calcium, then.
Thank you, that one never occurred to me. Just every other possibility.
there's stuff in fish you need too.
That's just in fish. Omega-3 and such.
I eat that stuff too. I do eat fish pretty regularly, and I use chia seeds and ground flax in my normal bread recipe.
I should add ginger to my next shopping list too. Heartrate gets high way too fast, doubt the ginger could hurt. (and any excuse to use more ginger, it's just good anyway.)
I'l have to show it to my neighbor too, she said that craving spicy things means you need vitamin C.
Intereatingly enough, craving calcium can mean you're vitamin D deficient too. If you don't have enough D, you can't absorb the calcium in your food.
I don't think it could be D. I take a supplement sometimes (you're not supposed to take them every day) and think I get too much sun. Bight sunlight drains me. Maybe I'm part vampire?
I'd rather be outside on a cloudy day or even a somewhat rainy day than a really sunny one.
Well, I have that same problem with sun, which means I stay out of it an thus lose out on D. But it's something to think about.
I ended up getting a prescription for VitD o.O
You want non-voodoo answer? Cravings happen, often hormonally mediated. Don't necessarily "mean" something, and specific foods even less. Not bad to feed them, but try not to read too much into it.
If you are craving salty, have something a bit salty, craving fatty, sweet, ditto. If you start craving human flesh, seek a priest
Google is not your friend unless you are asking the right questions in the right way at the right places. Coincidentally I recently did a blog post on this very subject!
If all else fails ask a nurse.
I know that they don't always mean something, it's the shift that's weird, though. Usually I want sweet stuff in the evening. Suddenly rooting through the cabinets for tuna when I'd usually be looking for m&ms
a really big change. It's just started happening recently. And I'm really habitual, just the change in itself is unusual, let alone being something that completely different.
I'm usually good at finding some sort of information, but for this one, what I'm craving is more often something that's recommended for avoiding other cravings. Mucks up results.
When was your last metabolic panel?
Any increased thirst, night sweats, increased urination, feeling cold, unintended weight loss?
Menstrual periods regular?
I'd say not to worry too much if it comes and goes over a day or two. If it keeps up then getting checked out is a good idea.
Nothing else particularly weird besides running. (Which is weird for me. Started in Feb, fairly consistent even though I still suck at it.)
I don't think I'm really worried. Just feeling like it must mean I'm missing something that probably isn't actually fish.
Well if you are running you are increasing your metabolic rate, so that would make total sense.
Most common craving I heard over and over again? Shrimp. No idea why.
My folks had increased metabolism for other reasons, but I got to laughing every time I heard "I have this weird craving for shrimp"
I'd thought I was fueling decently, but maybe that was for winter running, the summer thing is different and a PITA.
I actually did recently start eating shrimp! I've been making a kick-ass seafood pizza on the grill.
The thing is that whatever it is isn't likely to be harmful in any way and can be caused by hormones or metabolism or vitamin needs or a zillion other things- the easiest thing to do is not worry about it
and eat whatever your body wants it to.
I mostly do. Still something surreal about going into the kitchen for ice cream, realizing I don't want ice cream, and coming back out with tuna.

At 9 at night.
