And it has happened at least once a semester since I've gotten here. And since the emails never specify I always assume it's suicide which makes it all the more terrible

It really does. We were warned about depression and stuff at the start but I never really thought it would be that prevalent. It is so hard here though sometimes. At the very least the school at least has

a more active group hoping to prevent or bring to light mental health issues

this year it seems like they're more active than before.

yeah. i mean, a lot the kind of overachieving nerdy kids that mines attracts already have anxiety and/or depression coming into college, and this is a very high stress environment, so.

and a lot of people here have always excelled at academics enough to structure their self worth around their success at school, and it's so much harder to excel here, so that fucks people over

i am glad that i'm seeing more about the club dedicated to mental health on campus, and hearing a bit more about the counseling center and stuff, though. hopefully that will help

we don't get emails about deaths at least not yet but I get about 2 a week about someone getting raped on campus...
