So they send out a tornado warning alert saying to take shelter. I'm certain I'm not the only one who, upon seeing this alert, went outside to look.

I'd bet that it caused more people to leave shelter than it did to find shelter.

eh, nothing happened. I came inside once it started raining. Which took a bizarrely long time considering that the sky was looking like a strobe light.

Right after we moved to West Texas in the 80s, little run down farmhouse, had the first of many spring tornado alerts. Picked up the plywood sheet that covered the hole in the floor where the heater used to be.

Family was going to crawl into the crawl space under the house to shelter, but when we saw the rats doing the backstroke in the water standing under it we decided to just take our chances!

I spent no small number of spring afternoons in the walk-in fridge at work in those days. Do not miss that one damn bit.
