I just can't really figure out what to have him say. The mods said I didn't get his voice across well enough in the one I did manage to write and they want it to be longer

Well, why not write a letter to a friend in game? Assume for a moment Darling is in game right now haha revisions sob and write a generic-style letter asking them for help or advice or something
