So I definitely should have financial aid. My family EFC is 0. I'm working with the loan things right now.
My issue now is that it looks like Satisffactory Academic Appeal is needed. And I get why! Buuuuuuuuuuuut
when that happened it was back when I was living with my mom and a very low point emotionally. And I thought I could handle it (I couldn't obv) but
I hadn't gone to see a therapist becaue I held it in and everything just. Triggered recently.
So I have no actual documentation to provide them with regarding that? So I don't believe my appeal would work even if I got a current paper from my doctor
saying that i have some mental health problems so I'm not sure what to do |b
Then there's. Like "Fresh Start" but I'm just barely under the threshold for that
and i'm just like mmmmmmm what else can i do
i can't take out a private student loan or anything
my parents/grandparents would never sign for a PLUS loan because they wouldn't get accepted
like this efc of 0 is not incorrect at all
and mom's like "you don't need to take out another loan" while i'm just like ???? HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO GET THROUGH SCHOOL???
Money is hard and if a loan isn't an option I'm not 100% sure? You did a fafsa right?
yeah. like my issue is this academic progress hold and what to do with it. i'm prob. gonna walk in there and see if there's anything to do
since this was three years ago
Hold on let me turn on a computer i hate phone typing
What about things like Pell grants or department scholarships?
they won't allow a pell grant until satisfactory progress hold is up
and the scholarships look to be taken
so the first thing you need to know is that you are your own worst enemy when it comes to financial aid. Like the general you, not you specifically
walking into the office and talking to people is actually the best thing you can do, because then they get to SEE you and TALK to you and you become more than a number to the people who can do the most help for
in my personal experience, if you burst into tears they help you harder >>
but like. academic probation usually just comes down to a checkbox toggle
it's just someone going "Y/N" next to your name in the system
so yeah, if you can get paperwork from your current people then it might be enough for them
because it's not like mental health issues just appear out of nowhere
yeah my therapist has been doing my mom for a while and she said to let her sit down and she'll think back and see if she feels comfortable writing one knowing the situation
yeah i would definitely do the appeal and just
explain things, if you can get anything from your doctor
like if you can prove that YES YOU ARE AWARE and YES YOU ARE MAKING AN EFFORT
"i got drunk a lot and failed all my classes"
definitely aiming for an appeal though and hoping my doctor will help even very if I wasn't seeing her then
i also have recent medical paperwork which might help |b
I had to do one of those appeals too
they literally just want you to explain your case and provide any documentation you might have
it's way easier than it sounds
still intimidating as hell, of course, but
and recent paperwork should be fine; you don't need something from the time in question specifically
