Plurk poll: Say you're given a promo code for a store you like. Would you rather the code be for (1) an exclusive free gift of something you will use/like but don't need, or (2) a discount on your purchase.

So like! My last job was doing promos for a store, and I know just how much free gifts are usually worth.

because that 5% will at least offset the shipping

if the discount has a price minimum (spend $50, save $10) then probably free item because I rarely spend a lot of money in one sitting

also, it's usually "free gift if you spend $x" and the gift is worth, like, $1.50

Eh. Mostly it just means you know what you're getting--if you're being promised a free item, expect it to cost less than the price of shipping

i know you stipulated that the hypothetical gift is something you'd like

Haha. Entertainment Weekly has free Captain America duffel bags right now! That's the only "free gift" I can recall actually wanting, but they do exist!

i find most 'might want' items that are also 'dont need'

are things that just end up taking up room on my shelves/inmy house as clutter

so I'd still rather have a discount than a free thing just bc free
