Tfw you spend the first hour and half of what seems like a good horror movie wondering why it only has 1.5 stars on Netflix, and then the last fifteen minutes realizing why. [Spoilers for 'They're Watching.']
The buildup had been really, really good.
Good suspense instead of just jump scares, which I find is something found footage can usually struggle with. The usual stuff is there-cameras messing up and the like, but not too much.
Then at the end there's a moment where the true antagonist was revealed (and even the buildup to her was good! There were hints, but nothing entirely overt) and like 2/3 of the main cast are killed within fiv-
e minutes.
Complete with over the top special effects that take it too far out of the horror element, imo.
Yeah. Not all the way to it, pretty fucking close though.
We end the film with two (arguably one, but it's...weird) of the characters we've seen alive.
