Umbrella policies, for those who don't know, are kind of a catch-all insurance designed to cover losses that exceed other, more specific policies.

Like, say you're a business owner and some rando gets hurt on your property (normally covered by liability), and they sue you for a million bucks but your liability has a limit of $500K?

These are almost a must-have in California. We learned this when we moved out there.

But, a ton of stuff falls under an umbrella policy. Like multiple, seemingly unrelated properties.

I get the purpose of having umbrella policies. But, when I get a case saying "please change a thing for an insured" and I get a master umbrella policy number with 100 insureds under it...

It makes it virtually impossible to find the correct policy to amend.
