Bartz is from the end of the first game. After they beat Chaos but before they all go home.

So he remembers the events of that cycle. And over time he's been remembering the events of FFV too. Mostly thanks to a lot of parallels between that world and Crystallis.

There's still a lot of holes in his memory though.

Squall would listen to all of Bartz stories about that time, just saying
