I am heading to dinner, but will be very interested in playing either QP on live, or Season 2 on PTR tonight.

Seasons are two and a half months, except that Season 1 is one and a half. They're supposed to match up with real world seasons.
You didn't miss a whole lot, though. Season 1 was kind of rough.
Seasons only deal with Competitive Play - they have nothing to do with Quick Play.
Season 1 was bad in terms of format and just general atmosphere by Blizzard's own word. Basically consider it a test run :,D
