as someone with a deathly allergic reaction to bees, i need the epipen, they also expire REALLY quickly. i can buy epinephrine by itself for less than a dollar. this is what is fucked with our health system

i was trying to explain to someone you can't just buy an epipen and be like "ok we're done". They do expire and it's pretty quick too

i don't get why there's no other alternatives, is the injection method patented? So confusing, also our patent system is wacked out - patenting genes? To protect possible drug patents of the future? NOPE

this has been going on for years, it's been being raised quietly and no one seemed to care until now, which pisses me off. I don't need to buy an epipen but my sister does for her kids

kesseret: and it's a life-saving item... i don't want to have it, but it's needed. we can buy just epi but then everyone that is in contact with me would need to know how to pull it up in a syringe and inject

that's just not reasonable - the epipen was genius because it's easy to use. but the technology is NOT new, it's been on the market for a LONG time. there's no reason for them to price gouge except pure greed

EpiPen Alternatives: Mylan Raises EpiPen Prices 1,000 Percent, Fa... - this article discusses an alternative but it's a bit more complicated to deliver, you can train but it's not as easy as the epipen. it is also expensive.

give you an example. an MRI of lumbar spine without insurance is for example 1000. BCBS has negotiated for price to be 355. PCHP negotiated for 418. Medicaid 400. Or whatever... it's all BS

the fact it's a different price for different people is wrong.
