Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL phones start at $649 and $769, pre-or... Any thoughts on Google's new smartphones and their entry into the market?

I'm more interested in the Google Home products, which will directly try to fight sales with Amazon's Alexa. I have Alexa, and will have Alexa Dots all over my house.

haven't done any reading yet. The one thing Google Home can tempt me with is more flexible trigger options. Sorry Alexa but I don't like you.

and yes, now Google home has that, but until then, there was only Alexa

I can now check my bank balance, adjust my Nest thermostat and Frigidaire connected AC window unit, my Hue lighting system all over the house etc etc

I hardly use the app except to add skills

Yeah, still just the three 'wake word' options. That was something they promised they would update and then changed their minds.

but now there's more options with Home, so I would guess people will go for it

I may be tempted just for better integration into google stuff. will have to consider it. But it's not a huge priority, as the existing thing does its limited job fairly well.

I'll go read about the phones, but my initial uninformed thought is: google's phones have always had some rough edges and compromises compared to real flagships.

This was fine when they were considered great value propositions, as was the case with the HALLOWED NEXUS 7, but when google hardware moves into luxury pricing band, their shortcomings loom large.

the only reason I am spending flagship money on a phone is if I want flagship quality features (camera, battery life, screen)

And I have to skip generations and make my phones last to justify such expenditures. Currently on an LG G4 which replaced my LG G2.
