I think his Lupin-esque atire is a bit odd considering he was a mystery writer

And his character was regarded as a counterpart to Holmes from what I remember hearing before

He was, though he was also the father of The Man of Many Faces / Fiend With Twenty Faces

And more or less invented the Phantom Thief genre for Japan.

So you could either model him after Kogoro (His detective) or his thief.

Still he wasn't just a mystery writer, but specifically a writer of Ero Guro Nonsense.

His pen name even is suppose to suggest an image of staggering in a rather seedy area.

(On top of being a reference to Edgar Allan Poe)

He was an interesting person

And the only sad thing is a lot of his best stories are not available in English :c

But, I noticed some of them were being translated more recently.

I would definitely recommend checking out what is available.
