I was a VIP this year and WOW they gave us a ton of swag. A really nice bag, snacks, a scroll, shirt, socks, plush of the con mascot, pint glass, lanyard.... etc.
I've never been able to afford VIP treatment at a con before so it's hard to REALLY review it, but someone else said they do this a lot and this was one of the best VIP treatments they've gotten, and I had fun
The main perk of being a VIP was getting to go to a special VIP autograph session, where you stood in one short line to meet ALL the guests. It was both a blessing and a curse.
On one hand, ONE SHORT LINE TO MEET ALL THE GUESTS.
On the other, MY NERVES FAIL ME ENOUGH MEETING ONE GUEST AT A TIME WITH A LONG LINE TO PREPARE MYSELF
I was so stoked to meet DC Douglass this year that all my mental energy went into that and some other guests got the short end of the stick from me. :'D
I'M SORRY ERIC VALE I LOVE YOU YOU'RE A GREAT SANJI I'M SORRY ALL I DID WAS ASK YOU TO SIGN MY THING THEN MOVE ON BECAUSE DOUGLASS WAS RIGHT NEXT TO YOU ORZ
And I said some of the dumbest things to everyone but what else is new??
Like, I asked Caitlin Glass to sign a ONE PIECE poster but it only featured the main 9 so
Caitlin: Oh, who should I sign on? I don't want to take someone else's space.
Me: You can sign on Usopp. I already had him sign the issue of the manga where Usopp shows up... plus I'm like one of two weird people who ships Usopp and Vivi?
(I TOLD HER ABOUT MY DUMB SHIP)
Caitlin: Pretty sure Vivi ends up with Koza.
Me: LET ME DRRREEEEAAAAAAAAAAM
i'm such an embarassment everyone was so nice though
Since I'd met Sonny before for the Usopp thing I had him sign Vol 1 of MY Hero Academia this time. He told me he got the idea for his voice for present mic from "a super misogynistic radio host"
One of the voice actors I knew several of the roles of but had never watched any of them dubbed. He signed with "Kelly, go watch more dubs!" XD
And then meeting DC DOUGLASS AKA CHASE FROM TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS AND I WASD COSPLAYING GRAHAM FROM RESCUE BOTS
I'm amazed I could remember any of my conversation with him. I was a starstruck mess. Kumo is very small and usually only gets anime-only English VAs. This time we got an all around VA AND STUDIO TRIGGER
Douglass signed my autograph with "ROLL TO THE RESCUE" bless him.
He also does a panel where he reads really bad 18+ fanfics in character, and...
Douglass: Are you coming to my panel later?
Me: Not really my thing, but I was telling my friend I would if you were gonna read as Chase. XD
Douglass: Nahhhh you're too innocent I can't ruin Chase for you with that. Although my narrator voice kind of sounds like him.
Me: Speaking of, we need another season so Chase can finish his novel!
Douglass: Yes!
AND THEN LAST IN THE LINE WAS STUDIO TRIGGER
We had the creative director of Luluco and an animator who had helped Disney design BAYMAX for Big Hero 6
One doodled Baymax next to their autograph and the other doodled Luluco when I expressed my love for both shows. Both needed translators so that was pretty much all the conversation we had.
Later, they showed up on stage at closing ceremonies and got everyone chanting "JUSTICE!!!" and doing the Luluco hand sign.
TL;DR All the guests at Kumoricon were lovely and it was the best weekend ever.
I'll do a better write up and/or entry for my webcomic once I'm totally recovered from con crud.
you should be it was amaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzing
I bought so much junk from artist alley too like
I love buttons because I can throw a dollar or two each at ALL THEM ARTISTS
I need to take a photo of all the buttons I got
meanwhile I just blow all my dollars on commissions
I've never commisioned someone at a con before!
I was tempted this year though.
Someone had a TON of transformers stuff at their table - like not just IDW either but RESCUE BOTS and PRIME and I almost comissioned them
I'm just really bad at following up[ on stuff like that???
they got like 20 bucks from me though because they had all these keychains and buttons and yeeeeah
we had a takoyaki stand in the exhibition booth too which was great because CONVENTION CENTER FOOD SUCKS
6 BUCKS FOR A REALLY BLAND SLICE OF CHEESE PIZZA
i am never paying the same amount of crap cheese pizza that i paid for a whirl keychain ever again
Every year I learn something at con and this year's protip is"
NEVER BUY REGULAR CONVENTION FOOD UNTIL YOU'VE CHECKED THE EXPO HALL BECAUSE THERE IS PROBABLY ENOUGH CHEAP JAPANESE FOOD TO KEEP YOU FULL ALL WEEKEND
plus glico was there and if you spend >5$ on pocky you got a giant inflatable pocky stick
TL;DR YOU GUYS SHOULD COME TO KUMORICON NEXT YEAR WE CAN HANG OUT
