Ours (in the UK) are horrible, they feel so unofficial, I swear one time I voted and the ballot was like, printed askew on paper that was also cut askew. And you mark the box with like, a little golf pencil
Nivaya: it's something that prevents voting - i almost left today due to the wait. they had paper ballots and ONE scan machine... only took 20 mins to vote but there was another hour wait just to scan ballot.
We put it in a little locked metal mailbox, and then they're counted manually. Elections are all very low-tech here. Which I suppose some would see as a good thing, but, it makes me feel icky.
I think the ballots are taken to the counting place under police guard. But the way they're counted, they literally just dump them out on tables and go through them by hand.
kesseret: and the paper ballots + scanning machines are better? we had touchscreen voting at this same place last november. it makes no sense to change. how were they unreliable?
do different districts use different machines? i never saw an issue with ours here in amherst. not saying that some weren't crap but... ONE fucking scanner for a place that serves 10k or more is ridiculous.
