I just love it when people drive in the rain with their hazard lights flashing and their headlights off! (doh) That's the total opposite of what works.

maybe their headlights shorted out, and they are trying to be safe by using the hazards. just a thought.

kotahaukka: That's possible but I've seen this sort of behavior many times over the years with many cars and drivers.

it's also the opposite of THE LAW in most places. Geez!

In PA, if the wipers are on, your headlights need to be on. Hazzards are for when you're going well below the speed limit (doh)

DPUTiger: that's Ohio law, too.

pretty sure it's the law like... almost everywhere? because it's the safe thing to do?
SillyGooseKnits says

DPUTiger: I'm pretty it's the law in Florida too

not the law in Montana or Nebraska. Headlights are optional when running the wipers...which weirds me out because I like being able to see headlights when driving in the rain or snow and hardly anyone uses

them. :/

but yeah, driving with hazards on instead of headlights is weird too.

Kibor: they should work. I've never seen a car that turned off the headlights when the hazards were on

it'll drain your battery pretty fast if the car's off but it doesn't prevent it
Hello♥Sweetie

cause a lot of people turn hazards on in stormy conditions on the highway

Which makes sense in heavy snow or otherwise low visibility

But not as a replacement for headlights smh

Just because its law doesnt mean dveryone cares! We have a county deputy who puts out safety updates and she always reminds everyone.

I seriously wish we had that. Instead our deputies are getting in trouble for embezzling and the police chief is fired for letting a city official peep on folks. lol! Yay Sidney! So glad I moved. lol

Headlights with wiper in DE and NY too. I also hate it when people drive in fog with out headlights. That happens a lot here in central NY state.

Driving on bad roads with hazards on is dangerous. People have a bad habit of following the lights ahead of them.
DPUTiger says

dragon_harrower: Driving w/hazzards but w/o headlights makes total sense if you're driving well under the speed limit during daytime. (like a truck climbing a hill)
dragon_harrower says

DPUTiger: I agree. Or when you're having a mechanical difficulty. It's the use of hazards instead of headlights in the rain that befuddles. lol
