There's a zen buddhist meditation center near where Kat and I moved to so we went to a peer-led sit-and-meditate class.

I found it very challenging! One: physically. Sitting without back support made me realize I really have very little back strength (or TOO stiff of a spine??)

Two: the balance between gamifying every breath (I apparently counted every breath in a twenty minute period and began making projections on how I could do better next time without really realizing how hard I was focusing on it.)

the other end of that balance being going almost certainly literally wall-eyed, spacing out a step or two from breath. I could feel what was very much like slipping into beta-wave thinking patterns of falling asleep and having to open my eyes and stare hard at the floor to keep from just slumping into sleep.

There was an intermission of a walking meditation, but in this case walking was a hyperbole: In the course of ten minutes we made one circuit around a space that was perhaps 400m squared, quite probably less.

I do like that I feel like I've had a couple of drinks worth of brain being loosened up without the actual drinking, though. I think I'll go back once a week to see if that is enough to keep myself capable of doing it without rusting over too much between sessions.
