Chara would probably slam the brakes on any attempt to kill Asgore. Like, they were willing to allow Frisk that because they were a child with very little in the way of better options (or had enough LOVE at that point not to care), Mettaton's just planning to murder their parental figure because he thinks he's in the way. That shit's not gonna fly.
I think Frisk might be the strongest fighting force here, depending on how pacifist they were in this timeline.

On the other hand, assuming green magic doesn't have too much of a range limitation, this could appeal to him. Just stand in the back behind the shield and toss healing magic at people, no need to actually stand up and do things.
