Looks great! I'm not going to get involved in that at midnight, though. Adding to my freetime list.
Eph Zero

Are you going to First Friday, btw?
cacarr
I think I will drop by First Friday. Supposed to take a buddy of mine to Tanuki for izakaya chow that night...

...but don't see why I can't see why I can't come by FF first...
Eph Zero
I'm on the fence right now, but maybe I'll feel inspired on Friday.
cacarr
sheesh... must be tired, can't keep track of what I've written while in the middle of a sentence.
cacarr
Think I likely will drop by...
Eph Zero
I don't suppose you'd have that computer I haven't seen with you! :-))
cacarr
Plurk's April 1st gag is pretty funny.
Eph Zero
I didn't see it...
cacarr
Ah, I would have it.
Eph Zero
[computer I haven't seen] [with you], not [computer [I haven't seen with you]], of course
cacarr
I managed to parse it... :-)
Eph Zero
both are true, at least
cacarr
Other than having a 160 GB HDD, it's pretty similar to your machine.
cacarr
...hmm, has an express card slot, though
cacarr
one less USB

I like that it's matte black and looks like a little business laptop -- Lenovo-style.
cacarr
Your keyboard might be slightly larger. My trackpad is considerably better...
cacarr
A little bit bigger keyboard can make a lot of difference -- you would be fine with either with your precission little robot fingers.
Eph Zero
ha, yes, Andrew calls them elf fingers, and tiny keyboards are quite sufficient. And yeah, the eee trackpad sucks.
cacarr
Fortunately for me, I don't have big iron worker hands...
Eph Zero
For full-size, I really like the keyboard on my Dell XPS M1330. Just the right amount of springiness and snap for me.
Eph Zero
Like it much better than the MacBook keyboard.
cacarr
I might buy myself a burly 15 inch Dell laptop at some point in the not too distant future. I think Lenovo probably inherited the best...
cacarr
...keyboards. IBM ThinkPads were very nice keyboard-wise...
cacarr
Dell makes some laptops with very good build quality of late...
Eph Zero
My Dell is a year old now and I'm not tired of it yet. Unheard of!
cacarr
...for sure.
Eph Zero
Wish I could have GarageBand on it, and I wouldn't need the Mac. That's all I use it for.
cacarr
I think I need a laptop with a discrete processor... doesn't need to be able to run Crysis or anything...
cacarr
Are there insurmountable problems with installing OSX on it?
cacarr
discrete GPU, that is...
Eph Zero
Haven't checked in a while, but last I read, audio is the toughest part...and the thing I need most.
Eph Zero
Macs used to be so exciting...now I have little use for them.
cacarr
There was an app workaround for my S10... got audio functioning
Eph Zero
I might should look into it again. That'd make me pretty happy. (How do you like my double modal?)
cacarr
Might be a .kext out there to solve the problem now.
cacarr
I dig double modals
Eph Zero
I <3 them. My mom used TRIPLE modals, only when mad: "You MIGHT should oughtta think about it!!!"
cacarr
I get some semantic something out of them ... they don't violate any native-speaking sensibilities of mine.
cacarr
wow!
Eph Zero
Yes! It's different than...single modals or other ways of saying a similar thing.
cacarr
I think so, but I couldn't explain it...
Eph Zero
there's some kind of swirling lava lamp of uncertainty that undulates between the two of them, making me feel pleasantly woozy
Eph Zero
and no, I'm not on drugs right now
cacarr
I'm a weird cat with a similar education and thus know just what you mean...
cacarr
It's like you are sliding an analog qualification meter when you stack them up ... of course, I could just be high on weed, which I am. :-)
Eph Zero
It's a heavy liquid! And feels lovely when it shifts the balance between the two modals.
cacarr
On a slightly different topic -- I once was told by a toddler, upon asking her to do something, that "I can't want to.."
Eph Zero
Oh, I love that.
Eph Zero
Maybe she _wants_ to want to...
cacarr
cut right to the illusory, epiphenomenal nature of the delusion of free will... ;-)
Eph Zero
I just saw a FB thread imploring people to get into a discussion on free will vs. determinism, but I'm wayy too tired for that.
cacarr
That's a bit much at this hour...
Eph Zero
I feel like staying up all night, which means I ought to go to bed immediately. (:
cacarr
You should audit "Philosophy of Mind" in the Philosophy dept. at PSU... prof. is the department head.
Eph Zero
I'll try to make it to FF. Think you'll be there around 4 if you're going out later with your friend?
Eph Zero
!!!!! Yes!
Eph Zero
This term? Has it already started?
cacarr
Hmmm.. don't think it is offered this term.
cacarr
Twice a year, I think
cacarr
or perhaps once a year
Eph Zero
I'll look for it.
cacarr
The professor is a Finn, and a real character
Eph Zero
Oh, you mean whatsisface? Tom? Blond ponytail
cacarr
Tom...
Eph Zero
Yep, Sepp. :-)
cacarr
yeah
cacarr
That's him
Eph Zero
I've taken two classes with him.
cacarr
Yes?
Eph Zero
Very entertaining.
cacarr
ah...
Eph Zero
UNST class...science & pseudoscience
cacarr
Not very PC...sometimes offends female students
Eph Zero
and Philosophy of Science
Eph Zero
Ha ha ha...that's actually one of the things I find very entertaining.
cacarr
Yep, that's his stuff
Eph Zero
But it's quite unfair -- if that were coming from someone who were 80 and hideous, I'd probably be offended.
cacarr
I think the Philosophy of Mind class is his big class
cacarr
hehe
cacarr
He's a bit charming
Eph Zero
You say that as though it's a bad thing. :-)
Eph Zero
I guess I just like people who let it all hang out, propriety be damned.
cacarr
I would go out on class breaks and smoke cigs with him and argue...
Eph Zero
Side note: I think it's funny how plurking has become IM. Had a "chat" like this with someone else yesterday.
cacarr
Yeah... don't see why you shouldn't have IM built into this sort of stuff...
Eph Zero
Well, this works in an ad hoc kind of way. Except that it's public, but -- whatever.
cacarr
All these sessions are public?
cacarr
Ah well
Eph Zero
Unless you start it as a private message. Then maybe the rest is private too, I would think.
cacarr
Fosters focused conversations on particular topics, perhaps... yeah, I'll be by FF early, either with or before meeting my Anarcho-Socialist
cacarr
...Vassar drop-out friend.
Eph Zero
ha ha
Eph Zero
Just tried to test sending a private message, but couldn't -- I think it's because we're not officially "friends"
cacarr
Ah... confused on that distinction on Plurk
Eph Zero
yeah, me too. I think "fans" are followers, and "friends" are mutual fans
cacarr
Added you as a "friend"
Eph Zero
already sent you a test private plurk
cacarr
There's lots of potential with this Plurk... if they could do a much fancier interface...
cacarr
Super-slick heavier graphical transition pop-out IM and such... all shiny -- people would dig it.
Eph Zero
I kind of like the simplicity and cartoonishness of it, but the kids, they like the shiny. Of course, that could just be theming.
