What career are you hoping to go into?
ideally something involving labwork! I'm interested in genetics and toxicology, so maybe something combining them
i'm at a navelgazing "what DO i want" point in my life so that's a bit of an [internal screaming] question
I hope you find something that you enjoy and can live well off of. : D
the ol quarter life crisis
tell me about biochemistry
well right now I'm looking at what the Hot New Stuff is for nitrogenases
which are the proteins some micro-organisms use to make ammonia from nitrogen in the air.
vitally important to agriculture. plants can make their own energy but they really need nitrogen as building blocks.
so there's a lot of literature focused on that sort of thing
it turns out though that with some tweaking a nitrogenase can turn CO2 in the air to methane.
like. in one step. no other enzyme does this.
there's like the Fischer-Tropsch industrial process, but that takes a lot of high pressure and energy.
it's tentative, but the idea of turning the greenhouse gas directly into usable hydrocarbons in a more economically viable manner is very attractive
so there's a lot of work being done there too.
: D biochemistry is Really Cool
it really is : D the world is so complex and w-
"When you're a kid, they tell you it's all... grow up. Get a job. Get married. Get a house. Have a kid, and that's it. But the truth is, the world is so much stranger than that. It's so much darker. And so much madder. And so much better."
What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?
oh lord
i recently found something i wrote in primary school that was clearly based of the Big Friendly Giant so since at least then
I'm not sure of the exact year since it's somewhere in a storage box there
my first published fanfic was something on the surprisingly gen-filled portal kink meme in 2011
which was when I started uni.
in between then i made a lot of stuff but pretty much for myself.
it does mean that i conveniently skipped having an embarrasing online fanfiction history
