my grandads dying

and I feel so utterly helpless

he was only supposed to go into hospital for a surgery on his leg, I'm so confused, why has he come out of it this worse for wear???

I know he's old, and that increases the risks with surgery, but I just can't be anything but confused

apparently he's not been up to visitors lately because he doesn't want us all to remember him by the way he is in hospital... which is fair I guess... we sent him some letters the other day, with some photos to send our well wishes to him

man, I remember visiting him before he went for surgery, we were laughing about it because it had been delayed multiple times and it was just to remove some infection on his leg that was making it difficult for him to walk

I lost my grandpa after a surgery too, though it was a bit different, they just... found a cancer inside him and he didn't wake up

I'm very sorry. Try to stay strong, it's what he'd want

I'm sorry to hear that... apparently there was complications with grandads surgery so they had to keep him in, and then he just went downhill from there

I'm trying, but it's hard considering I really didn't see this coming... when I visited him in hospital a few weeks ago, he looked fine, he was alert and had a conversation with us, but apparently now he's barely awake most of the time

he's been moved to a hospice now, the same one where his wife died... my uncles girlfriend is keeping me in the loop
