So I can't get the original images because the person has a protected account but
Basically an artist did a rule 63 gender swap of ddads to be Dream Milfs, a dating sim between moms.
Which to me seems pretty innocent. But until this wank started, I wasn't aware Damien, goth dad, is a Trans man.
And the Internet is just unleashing a firestorm on the artist because of this reason
Basically the issue seems to be around that because he's trans, gender swapping him is an insult to the trans community.
Which I can understand. But then... in this case wouldnt... not gender swapping their identity to female be worse?
Like having a row of gender swapped Milfs and then just... regular Damien be... kind of terrible?
Also, if this is an AU where all their genders are swapped, is it bad to think that Damien would be a Trans woman?
Personally I'm worried the fact that I saw no issue originally that I might be unaware of a potentially really offensive hot button
i'm kind of thinking the same
basically people get really dumb about genderbends anymore
rule63 damien could just as easily be a trans woman
i am in the same boat as you and i feel similarly?
i know there's sensitivity around genderbends now
wow it was bad enough that the official account commented on it huh
apparently the artist didn't know damien was trans, which ... tbh, if people weren't yellin about it all over my timeline, i wouldn't either
Yeah ddads stepped up and said knock it off
knock off the yelling, or knock off the gender swapping?
I'm glad to see I'm not totally off base here.
it's really hard because like at the same time, there are people whose feelings are ... idk, validly hurt, for lack of a better turn of phrase
Yeah, I get you. Erasure is never good, I feel, if that's the purpose
But what is the cost of exclusion? Damien is a man, and in a meme affecting all men... should he be a man, or a "trans-man"
It's also just like ... a piece of what is super obviously just fun trashy art, I guess. There isn't much room for nuance or explanation, and that's not its purpose either.
Yeah, that's what I thought too. Like this is obviously a super indulgent, not serious piece of art playing off the niche theme of the original game
But it also hurt a lot of feelings. So is it like, ok but will naturally hurt feelings? Not ok? Could it have been handled better?
Obv is the person wasn't aware then what can you expect? The game doesn't appear to slap you in the face with Damien's back story first thing. So if you aren't warned...?
I think it just astonishes me that the fandom reflex to 'I don't like a thing, it made me feel like shit' is immediately 'make the person feel like a shit'
Oh yeah, that I can never agree with
i mean it shouldn't, but like ... 'i didn't like this, i'm gonna make my BETTER AND IMPROVED versioon of the thing'
Haha, like "here, I fixed it foe you. Be more woke, kthnx'
yeah, and even if that's obnoxious in its own way, at least it builds on something instead of tearing it down
and also, if it turns out hey, people have problems with that, they'll learn something like actually it's hard to make content that pleases everyone so you might as well please yourself
i've seen a lot of trans headcanon porn floating around and i predict there will be tons of damien porn floating around too
The last place I think someone is going to get kink-shamed is the ddads Fandom
from one point of view, it's pretty fetishizing/objectifying; on the other, it also feels kind of like ... acknowledging that everyone's body can/should be seen as attractive is super important too lmao
but you're going to get people who agree/disagree with both those views depending on where they're coming from
There's no easy answer. My major concern was just that to me it wasn't offensive. But that in and of itself can be insensative? So now I'm just musing
How exactly does rule 63 affect the trans community? Is it just wrong altogether?
something about how rule 63 is weirdly mired in gender roles i think? like there's a school of thought that 'exactly the same as canon, but with tits/dick slapped on' is offensive/disrespectful/doesn't acknowledge how different they'd be if they were raised the opposite gender
another one is like 'but if you DO take into account how they'd be raised differently it's weird and reductionist!!!' something like that
but that's only what i've vaguely observed
I suppose there's also the possibility of it being like 'Ideally everyone gets raised the same (even though that's not realistic) so these exact same people are just gender instead for a different fetish"
I'd argue that if damien were a trans woman and still going the same #aesthetic, if the artist was REALLY committed, a more brides-of-dracula-esque outfit would probably fit more ... based on the slim, slim knowledge i have of the character. but that opens up another can of worms bc female character DESIGNS are very sexualized etc
True. And the last thing this conversation needs is more places to upset people
yeppp
like i saw the designs and they were cute but i was also like
they would be wearing completely different things
if they were always ladies
A think a woman wearing "male/masculine" cloths is super attractive personally. But I see your point
I THINK IT'S SUPER CUTE TOO
i just looked at the art to refresh my memory again and yeah, i don't like it lol
but for completely different personal taste reasons
i hope a bright spot out of all of this is that it gets people more interested in checking out the game and deciding to play it for themselves!
honestly i feel like people who get mad at rule63 completely misconstrue what it even is tbh
but i also think something like this is more likely to turn people off of the game too, because that's what toxic fandoms usually do for the property they're centered around
and there's a huge line between "i feel hurt by what this person did" and "this person is history's greatest monster" that fandom has kind of lost the ability to recognize over the years
and it starts to feel like a lot of the outrage is performative rather than genuine anymore
okay so point 1: the artist has a history of being a shitbag, which might be part of why the internet is being such a dick about it, that said...they (the internet) need to knock it off
death threats are not warranted here, she made a mistake...shes not really apologizing for said mistake but she made a mistake none the less
and its not just because of erasure, they made brian who is a big dude (hes more like the type of guy built for strength than show so hes got some fat on him) skinny-ish with HUGE boobs...because fat women just have fat in their boobs right?
what makes it worse is the ddadds twitter account telling them to knock it off has people going on about how the ddadds team is also just a bunch of trans/fatphobic assholes because theyre protecting an artist who is
I didn't know about her previous behavior. But I did see the discussion of Brian's body type and agree with that aspect of the criticism. I'm pretty comfortable with my feelings on that aspect of it
same. like i said, looking it again i really don't like the art itself at all lmao but it's also like 'i will condone this kind of attack when its' a person i don't like' is just ... v

v
yeah the response that was heaped on her was not at all warranted and people need to stop with kneejerk reaction of "i dont like it so this person should die"
i feel online etiquette needs to class taught in schools
if you wouldn't say it in real life don't say it on the internet is, amazingly, something people have not grasped AT ALL
(least of all on facebook, lmao)
(seeing grandmas drag people in public is kind of amazing tho)
its also like, what if that person did turn up dead? or killed themself?
who do you think theyre going to look at?
online bullies can be punished by law, they obv dont realize that
just judging from the thumbnail, i wouldn't call that brian anything close to skinny
aside from the gag boobs she looks like she has pretty much the same body type as rose quartz, another case of people having no chill when fanartists draw the character skinnier than they think she should be
i mean brian isnt even fat, really
its like maui all over again
