I figured that some component had failed and I was going to have to buy and swap in different parts until I figured out which one was busted and that just sounded like more work than I wanted to undertake
thus it has been just sittin
the other day,
cvraden came over and we opened it up, because he recently fixed his and he wanted to see if there was anything visibly off in there
he has some stuff for removing excess thermal paste, which there was, so we cleaned it off and reapplied some in a much more conservative amount and lo and behold the pc works again
tldr; i didn't fix my computer for 6 months when all it needed was to be cleaned basically
does your comp have aftermarket cooling?
Yeah I put a big ol heat sink/fan in there not too long after I built it
I don't really know how the paste would make it overheat? But when it just shuts off like that it's usually overheating
And all we did was clean off the paste
might have been a bad contact with the cpu. in that case the thermal paste you had on there would have worked for a while but eventually it would have kind of oozed away.
yeah that sounds about right
but what do I know, I use stock cooler.
the upshot is now I can play games that aren't on the switch or my phone again
soooo I bought Total Warhammer during the last steam sale.
I overlooked it when it came out but been playing it pretty nonstop since I got it.
first campaign was the dwarfs.
it's been on my wishlist just cause like
i have a soft spot for all that dumb lore
too bad I missed summer sale....
probably gonna but player unknown's battlegrounds tho
the lore is like just enough flavor for you to build your own narrative.
but tactically it's really well built.
I'm not the first person to point out that the diversity of the fantasy setting draws people in wayyyy better than a historical setting.
like yea, knights charging down peasants can be fun, but what if the knights are riding hippogriffs, and the peasants are zombies?
and all other matter of nerdy "who would win" scenarios that are put together in a surprisingly coherent stategy game.
unfortunately, with all the dlc, (which you'll want to get) it's pretty pricey. I'd definitely wait for another sale.
also, why is there a robot peddling 7 year old games in your plurk?
Fuck if I know, I thought that was an add
err, the main quest anyway?
Yeah I did, I didn't quite get all the shrines yet
Also haven't beaten the sword trials yet
