On the rare occasions when Proto does let himself go into sleep mode, he'll find somewhere quiet and sheltered and play some music with the volume turned down low to help him relax enough to talk himself into sleeping.

Sometimes, yes. Proto's first swear was a string of "fuck"s sometime after running away from home, once the reality of his situation had fully sunk in.

Because he is still alive, damn it, and he is going to make as much of that as he can while he still can.

Well, he is a computer. But he does sort some of his information using little tunes he composes, yes.
