Stephenie Meyer has released a new book. Of course I want to read it. I can't resist. Checked the reviews and they are glowing, praising her writing as having improved vastly.
Why does this news upset me? Because, one, she has been lying to us for over 4 or 5 years about a Host sequel, and two, I still have little respect for her as a person because of how she reacts to her Twilight fans.
I still like her writing, and I will inevitably buy this new book, no question. But I don't feel the same "urgency" to buy the book that I would feel if it were Cassandra Clare or any of my other recent author discoveries.
To quote her book, being a fan of Meyer's is like having whiplash. I don't want ot like her, but then I can't help but like her stories. Maybe not her writing. The best of her writing that I had seen so far was The Host, and some people even argued that that writing was crap, too
I'll probably check the book out of my library if they have it. Because next month I won't have the $$ to buy anything. It's all going into my Switch.
Edit: Apparently, the book came out last November. So it was a REALLY quiet release..
probably because she's not really relevant anymore.
I didn't even know she was still writing
I mean, aside from the gender switch for Twilight, anyway.
though just asking for curiosity's sake... if you don't really like her as a person, why give her money?
Don't get me started on her gender switch bullshit. That was a slap in the face to her millions of fans who deserved way more than that for a 10th anniversary thing.
Because who she is as a person doesn't dictate her ability to tell a story (and I am a sucker for a good story. Note I said STORY, and not writing).
It's been my struggle with her for a long time, honestly.
Me either. It threw me for a loo when I saw it.
The gender swap annoys the hell out of me, because the fact that Beau is actually more relatable than Bella to an extent rubs me the wrong way (I read some of it out of boredom and to snark out, and then got pissed off because of what I just mentioned.)
I just got pissed off about it in general.
