Finally decided on what to use Kasen's freebie on. In a few days, Katherine Takada is gonna wake up and somehow be able to fluently speak japanese. Though I think I need advice on something to do with it.

What I need advice on is whether or not to include an interesting detail from my Touhou head canon.
the mods are pretty okay with headcanon on canon-sparse characters, in my experience, but it depends on what it is, really
like for May, it wasn't outside the realm of possibility that the Jellyfish Pirates went on treasure hunts in some of the ruins seen in the series, even if they're never actually show doing so (or even mention it), because hey. Pirates. Treasure.

It sort've has to do with the dialect of Japanese spoken in Gensokyo: I've always headcanoned it as either straight up classic era japanese or a mix of Classic and Modern Japanese due to how long Gensokyo has been isolated.

If the latter comes into play, then any japanese speakers in Recolle might find her dialect a little...odd.

But if thats a bit too out there, I'm fine with handwaving it as modern japanese.
well if you really want to nail it down, Gensokyo was sealed in the late 19th century, and was likely to be originally located somewhere in Nagano
so that's completely likely
to be more specific, the Bakumatsu period had just ended, like, 5 years before Gensokyo was supposedly sealed, when what we think of as the modernizing of Japan really started to begin in earnest
but the sages have been there for goddamn ages, since Yukari created the region well before then, it just wasn't actually sealed until the late 19th century

The thing is, I'm not sure how to specify the language thing. There's a whole lot I don't know about modern japanese.
Well, knowing the time period and the location helps

Also of note is that Kasen has been in isolation for a very long time, so I always imagined her not absorbing what parts of modern japanese did end up in Gensokyo.

Crap, accidentally messed that up. Clasical Japanese is what is used to describe an older written form of thel anguage. What Kasen would be speaking is "Early Modern" Japanese.

I mightj ust go with normal modern given the setting.

Nevermind, just confirmed that the Modern Japanese is what is spoken locally.

And I just realized that I need points for language. Welp, back to the drawing board.
for freebies, it's a good idea to try and think of something that might be difficult to recall normally
like, for example, part of Ibaraki-douji's legend
