Hmm... Actually, I should put up a shipping meme. I don't personally do shipping memes a lot but it's nice to have one every so often. If anybody has code for a particular one they want, feel free to let me know.
I'm planning to put together a dragon meme with mostly gen but a few shipping options. I likely won't put it up today though.
Side question about the comm: how many memes will it display per page? Some people are really bizarre about how they treat memes that aren't on the first page.
Hadn't really thought about that. I could increase the number if people want.
That's...true. That was part of Bakerstreet's problem
It's part of why I like to post about anything that went up, but you know what, I'll bump up the post show count.
...I find it kind of funny you can designate an account as a roleplaying account in DW's option list btw.
Heh, yeah, that's relatively recent.
Well, they know why 9/10ths of us left LJ, so while it's a bit late...
I think that's also so we don't have crazy things like with the Warriors of Innocence bomb that exploded
Okay, so basically a Christian group accidentally ran across a HP smut comm and got the whole thing banned, because they couldn't understand RP and fan fiction. And everyone got mad. That's a good summary.
ah yeah, that's what it was.
Also, I can't figure out how to up the number of entries per page.
Organize >Manage Community > Style, then click Customize Selected Theme at the bottom, and the option will be near the top.
You're looking for "Number of journal entries to show on the Recent Entries page".
What's a good number to balance between usability and utility? 40?
they didn't just got HP smut banned
they banned a fuck ton of innocent things like a child abuse survivor group and a spanish community for discussing the novel Lolita and other works by the author
Anyway, bumping it up to 40.
nods. "Sounds good to me. 1/3 more than bakerstreet but not too much."
If 40 can't handle our needs, we need to post less and tag more, honestly
Also, uh, I apologize in advance if I'm too gung-ho about promoting this place.
Gotta be aggressive since it's been established RP is resistant to change
we needed a second place for a LONG TIME.
True. Kinda overstepped my bounds a bit just now elsewhere though.
It's only this recent wank that brought that long issue finally to a head.
Also, any rules about animated gifs? Having an explicit gen/smut split helps in that regard, but it's still worth thinking about.
And being who I am I get to DWELL ON THIS FOR A FEW HOURS WHILE MINDFULNESS DOES DAMAGE CONTROL.
I don't think animated .gifs should be a huge issue.
nods. "Given the split, probably won't be, yeah."
Even in the split, the smut comm's pretty clear about having common sense with images.
Basically the big thing that always bugged me about trying to dig for gen in bakerstreet was having to scroll past lots of softcore greyscale animated gifs used to advertise the smut memes.
The human eye is naturally attracted to motion, and all that.
yeah a crazy amount of effort goes into those things.
It makes "just scrolling past" a cringe-inducing experience. so I'm glad for the split; at least then only people who want to see it will.
Oh, just to make the line between the comms a little brighter: I presume Created For Each Other/Made Together would belong on the_play_round in particular?
(Two different names for the same meme; not sure why it went through a rename at some point.)
Depends, is it heavily pornographic?
There's a handful of smut options, but it's more about the dark themes inherent in the premise.
The TL;DR of the meme is "you've been mindwiped, stuck in a room together, and misled to believe you're pod babies created to fall in love with each other". Hence my figuring it'd be a good example of too dark for the main comm.
Hmm... yeah, I suppose that falls under that category.
It's kind of funny how we're all deciding the Playground is gonna be super light, but I can dig that. Though I am probably still throwing up the Gothic House meme close to Halloween.
Hmm. So as long as we're keeping it light, I'm looking over the meme list someone compiled, and I'm thinking either High School AU, Domestic meme, or Fake Dating.
For number of posts per page, I just have mine set to view all journals/comms in my own style, so whatever the comm itself has set doesn't affect what I see.
(And I have mine set to view 50 posts per page.)
I think 40 should be plenty sufficient considering the nature of the comm, to be honest.
... I mean not to speak for anyone else but I like dark memes and shippy memes at times but don't care for smut and would prefer not to wade through a com made mostly of that to check if there were dark memes up
so it'd be kind of nice to have the divide more like 'would it fit if it was posted at tlh' than 'is it sexual or upsetting or anything else that might make it more mature'
I think what this probably boils downt o
a.) use the freaking tags
and b.) use text cuts for more unsettling stuff in The Playground.
As I recall correctly, these were problems at Bakerstreet too. I mean, I know the phrase is "don't like don't read," but it's kind of nice to make it easier to "not read," at least if there's a triggering possibility.
That's how I feel, but again, it may be a bit of an unrefined opinion.
no I mean by all means, things that have potentially triggering or upsetting content it's only polite to warn and cut
i'd just prefer it if like mindscrew wasn't something that got thrown in with the porn because it's dark content
That's legit fair enough.
