I'm installing HQ Trivia on my Android tablet. Does anyone have a referral code they'd like to share?

Why do they need my phone number?

Texts

I've never gotten texts; it sends regular app-style notifications, which don't need a phone number. The FAQ says, "We require phone numbers to verify and protect accounts. We need to keep accounts safe."

I think it's most likely to deter cheating — it makes it harder to set up a bunch of bots to plug in all the different combinations of answers — and for them to track the number of unique users. This article also speculates that it's enough info to link up your other online info and try to sell you stuff later.

But it doesn't sound as though they directly sell your phone number to telemarketers, if that's what you're worried about.

Played my first game last night at 9PM. I crashed and burned on the fourth question, talking myself into "plasmid"

I can see how the game can become addicting.

LettePonnier You're right. I don't get texts I get the notifications.

ThorntonWriter I've often failed at what are apparently deemed relatively "easy" only to get most of the remaining ones later

Me too, and Sharon says the same thing. I think only the first three are supposed to be easy (the first two blindingly so and the third only regular-easy). Then the middle ones, number 4 through 7 or 8, are totally random. They're familiar topics, but the writers are good at being tricky.

The last several are much more classic trivia questions. They might be hard for people who aren't big trivia buffs, but they're more familiar to the likes of us than the ones in the middle.
