12, jay - jay is interesting because he speaks in a fairly educated way - he'll use words like "ascertain," and i'm bad with accents but his sounds a little posh to me - despite (probably) having very little formal education

having been raised by an abusive assassin training him to kill people and then by otters

i'm guessing this is legendia / the localization not thinking about it too closely and wanting to code him as Intelligent, but also, one of the striking things about Jay's speech patterns is that he sounds . . . a lot like Solon. in mannerisms, turns of phrase, etc.

seriously, if you compare his intro scene to some of Solon's early scenes he sounds a LOT like a more benign version of Solon. and Solon does also use phrases like "glorious stage resplendent in war," so. if i had to fanwank it i'd guess that Solon is well-educated and Jay subconsciously takes cues from him

(it's also been noted in fandom that he dresses a little like Solon, although how much of that is Legendia's weird as fuck fashion I have no idea)

he . . . does not do it on purpose and would not, but he gets his register, vocab, etc. from Solon and . . . the CQs aren't voiced, but probably has Solon's accent as well

although I think that would have softened over time. he's been in the melting pot of the Legacy for a few years now

19, terezi - for someone so smart, terezi gets caught up in her own narratives a lot! i talk about this in her app but probably the biggest examples both have to do with vriska

one, the illusion that vriska was someone she could work with and be a V1G1L4NT3 DUO D1SP3NS1NG JUST1C3 with, which was rocked pretty hard when vriska maimed tavros and killed aradia

two, just the . . . general idea that vriska Needed To Die, that her death was a necessity to keep the rest of them alive instead of a consequence of terezi trying to do a tricksy seer justice thing with coins

like she raised the stakes to death there

anyway as things stand she is pretty solidly disabused of both those notions. she's still kind of got a smart kid complex in that she thinks she is capable of doing just about anything, so any time she fails at getting the ideal outcome it must be her fault

getting her over that is one of the places i'd like to go with her

32, jay - he tends to bottle up and then lash out. jay's not really good at admitting that he has irrational emotions, so he tends to suppress them and pretend they don't exist until he can't anymore

he's also got a bad habit in canon of lashing out at people he's concerned about

he does this thing where he'll taunt people or provoke them because he's incapable of saying "hey, are you okay? i'm worried about you"

20, terezi - does sgrub count??? or the death of her universe?

she went into the game second if i remember correctly so she wasn't a witness to a lot of the apocalyptic stuff but i mean . . .it did kind of happen because she and her friends decided to play a game

but then again it was predestined to happen and they were just completing a loop
