Jay is doing . . . surprisingly well, actually. he's pretty satisfied with how the jailbreak attempt went down, although he feels a little bad they didn't get there sooner

and is just waiting to see when Qri "wakes up" (or becomes aware again) so he can start asking her intrusive questions again

i was hoping people would play with me on the post i put up but i think spellbind people have been busy lately, and maybe i also posted it too soon after the jailbreak?

i'm a faster tagger than most of spellbind so i should probably keep that in mind more

anyway he's been, actually, fairly settled since he made that agreement with Geir to go back and fix stuff on his world. he continues to be ????? over Geir and Shirl all the time but in the meantime he's just,

long-term, he's pretty decided about his goals, short-term, he's organizing the coven to make it a palatable place to be and also work towards his personal goals for it

(find out more about Qri, make it more cohesive as an organization and make sure he has power in that organization)

I need to shake him up a little . . . I'm hoping we'll be able to do dreamscapes again once we get back to the hub, because that will help get some information he wouldn't normally share out there

i guess "getting more personal" is more how he thinks about it than "getting closer" but yeah

dirk identified a thing that jay said as a lie once but also said he was deceptive to jay about that thing

and made no commentary on jay being a liar in general at all

honestly it would only do so much good. or it would only do so much good at first. like-- geir knows loki lies all the time and loki can still trick him

if he could be like "i'm confident that x is truth" then he could just go "anything not x is a lie" but how do you do that in relationships

(the answer to how you do that in relationships is having high self confidence in yourself, confidence in other people, faith in your ability to read them, and a good general knowledge of and intuition about human nature, plus any personal experience you have with that person)

(geir has personal experiences and he can identify behavior patterns but without any of the other stuff he's spitballing)

i mean he's NOT interested in getting more personal, it's just, that has little-no bearing on his liking of geir

that contradicts the definition of being friends that i wrote down

i wouldn't call him interested in getting more personal with dirk either (although he is closer to that with dirk than he is with geir) and dirk is probably as close to him as his canon party at this point

GEIR, maybe your definition of "friends" needs work,

unfortunately jay is also emotionally constipated so while he likes geir he's not going to be saying that any time soon

he's mostly going off of a definition of friends that dirk gave him on /checks, day 49

julius gave a minor update on day 61 but i don't think there have been serious updates to the working friend definition since then

FRIEND RULES ACCORDING TO GEIR:

- feel reasonably comfortable around them
- like talking to them
- want to spend more time with them
- generally have a positive attachment and sense of caring towards them
- can work together with them to accomplish your goals
- are willing to sacrifice things for them

friendship must also be stated and agreed on by both parties to go into effect

it's really funny to me that people don't realize the extent of how stupid he is about this because it's reasonable that it wouldn't show up in play since he's gotten much better at socially adjusting himself so conversations flow smoothly and he's not asking weird questions all the time

anyway jay breaks like three of the Friend Clauses: he isn't comfortable around him (geir has a point, he heavily modifies his normal behavior around jay to avoid jay's discomfort), he doesn't think jay super cares to spend more time with him (see previous), and his idea of sacrifices is dramatic and he definitely doesn't think jay likes him that much

also they haven't stated friendship

so under what possible definition of friend law could you possibly say he and jay are friends

i've not in fact gone through geir's thought process on whether that's lying or authentic because it's never come up
