because this sort of came up in the heart meme, jay's hierarchy of people and otters: otters > shirl > dirk = rest of canon party > other coven friends (haru, jude, madoka) > jay's desire to not be a weapon/assassin again > jay's reputation in the coven > basically everyone else

note that "everyone else" includes a number of people he quite likes

also geir isn't on here because It's Complicated but for reasons not very related to how much jay likes geir he's probably level with dirk, maybe above him

geir is a valuable solon-killing resource

BUT YES. jay would kill or betray anyone on the list for someone higher on the list AND has recently had cause to think about the fact that he would, which is why literally everyone i did hearts for had "I would kill you" somewhere in there

like, terezi would probably also manipulate/hurt/betray/kill people if she was placed in a situation where she needed to, but i didn't pull those hearts for her because she doesn't really see herself being in that kind of situation

and, you know, she's a little Done with manipulation and killing

terezi's hearts were so much easier than jay's omg. she's also way more okay with casual touch than jay is

dirk, geir, and madoka, i think

they are his family (although he doesn't realize that part yet) and desperately important to him, and he betrayed his friends and seriously fucked up the world geopolitical situation for them

he loves them

geir voice: people who have positive relationships with the word "family" are wild

god. well some of us grew up viewing 'family' as a distant unobtainable thing in contrast to a lifetime of abuse!!!!

jay and geir really need to get stuck in a room together or something

i think it's more that dirk knows some key things about both jay and geir that neither has been able to determine from actually interacting with one another
