I like vegetarian dish, but...
The idea that one who is spiritual will celebrate the feasting of vegan meals made with love makes me cringe
I think it's the "especially going out of your way to do things" part
Then again, I am also someone who is kind of against fasting for any reason
Maybe asceticism works for some people, but not me
i guess it's an offshoot of some buddhism/asceticism stuff...
If anything, Buddha has attempted asceticism, and ultimately decided that this was stupid
Because he nearly starved himself to death
and then a woman offered him milk, and he was like, "I need to eat!"
Hinduism was very much about asceticism
and his early followers saw him drinking milk and were like, "Oh shit, he's renouncing his ways because he's partaking in sustenance!"
Buddha during his time was in large part rebelling against the Hinduism tradition and religious practice
"Killing an animal for a ritual is dumb"
ahh, so kinda like how jesus's stuff is culturally related to peaceful but impactful protest against the romans
But because Siddhatha was actually a crowned prince in the first place, he probably had a significant political immunity
I mean his father was still the king, and he did have an heir before leaving the palace for the journey of self-discovery
There was a deified part of his story that talked about how he had a jealous cousin who wanted him dead, and he sent him to hell, but I think something else actually happened. I don't think he had the power to send people to damnation
He said something along the line of, "Stop trying to ruin my life because worse things will happen to you."
I think his father probably assassinated his cousin in real life
It's ironic that now people are doing exactly what Buddha didn't want them to practice in his name
like... starving themselves, offer foodstuff to his gold-plated statue in giant gold-plated temples
I don't think he'd want to do any of that
I look at Myanmar and how the people live in poverty, and yet they still give to build a gold temple for him, and I'm like... no I don't think he wants this
My relatives don't get it
They said that people want something to worship, but... I... don't think that's what he wants?
Jesus didn't want people to kill for him either :/ but unfortunately that tends to get warped over time
they don't offer meat to Buddha, but plating him in gold is just as warped
