I've thought about doing that!
Guess who also found out she's not a significant % neanderthol so she can't claim not to be h.sapiens sapiens.
I found out I'm 9.9% sub-saharan african!
(this is completely unexpected.)
Also, I found out I may have a third cousin named Dick Duffin which is just hilarious.
I don't know why. But seriously, dick duffin.
"So what are you going to do on your date? Hoping for some dick duffin'"?
You should! It's really cool.
Tells you all kindsa shit.
I had heard they tell you if they find a relation, but they actually give names?
Well, like, this one has an opt in to find people who also used this service
Because that could be awkward if it was like, "Here's the woman who gave birth to you."
That's the one I had looked at.
That's what it looks like
yeah they're having a sale now, it's like, 70-something for US peopleses
I like sales. Maybe I'll finally do it.
The health one sounds useful, but I fear it's just a lifetime of hypochondria in a box.
Then just do the ancestry one!
Maybe I can be a neanderthal!
Does the 23andme do health?
They do have a health+ancestry kit
An if you buy just the ancestry you can like upgrade later but it's like... well, up here, tis roughly $150 of our monopoly moneys, dunno about the US cost
ALSO nolno we can finally prove whether or not we're clones of each
other
An excellent selling point
I'm still pretty weirded out by that sub-saharan african. According to this report, I'm more african than I am native American/Mexican! Although if I add the Iberian to the native Mexican, then i guess I'm more hispanic than african. But like still, white wins by a lot. (Which is also weird because I do not look very white.)

also what the fuck is "unassigned"
I'm a little ??? at some of it going from pretty specific to very broad
Right? I'm not 100% on that. Maybe it's like they don't have enough info from specific countries/tribes/communities to narrow it down even further?
but I will look into these things. I want to see my heritage that I don't know about lol
Cause like, west Africa isn't even that specific. There's like one hundred billion countries in west africa.
(I am stoked about the African hunter-gatherer, though. Two of the peoples listed were the Pygmies and the San, and that's pretty neat.)
But I mean, come on, they coulda at least told me which bit of the UK it was. I'm sure that loads of Welsh and Scottish people have done this
does it have more info with a click down menu or anything?
yeah the broadness is a bit concerning to me
Although I guess if you managed to find some of your "dna family" with more of the surprising DNA in 'em, you could try contacting them (through the website) and find out more about that?
Also, they do give you the option to download the full scientific reports, and if you can read those and... science hard enough you could figure it out?
