i think it A) being worried about my dog B ) trip coming up in a week and C) spending the day at "work" as a favor to watch my boss' dogs for the day but having no humans around
so like my dog has a weird only at night cough for weeks, right? long story short we dont think its anything contagious. we de-wormed him recently thinking it could be worms and not sure if that did anything?
and like all medical google searches everything points to like scary dying shit which i dont buy but... not knowing makes me anxious because we are going away for more than 2 weeks
and we were planning to have my MIL take him but she has young puppies at her place rn
and on the off chance that its something lik "not contagious unless it's a puppy or elderly dog" its like welp
but my dog is plenty happy and not feeling sick so
its just the 1-3 times at night that he coughs
and he's not a brachycephalic breed either
Hello, I am in a time zone near you and available to be babbled at. hugs
I know nothing about dogs but have lots of sympathy. (remember that scary dying shit is really unlikely, whatever the internet says)
nights coughs are more likely to be because of 1) different temperatures 2) the different position he's lying down in while sleeping 3) the different ways you breathe at night.
yeah im figuring thats just the google search talking
Remember that search engines are in fact extremely stupid
lol yeah its less that the internet has been saying hes dying and more frustrated because i cant find the answer through all the bullshit
could he be coughing because its hot though? that would make sense if i understood the theory behind it
he has a heavier poodle haircut this year than usual for summer so idk
Yeah, that's very possible.
how does heat change things?
oh wait dogs "sweat" through their mouths...
i wonder if hes had too much saliva in thier so hes choking on his own spit while he sleeps....
i choke on my own spit if i am laying on my back so
does that make any sense?
That's actually something that happens to me when I have too much saliva while sleeping so yes, definitely makes sense
usually we keep him short but we have been letting my boss use him as a test poodle to practice grooming on
not that we can know for sure but if its as simple as that it would take a load off my mind
Honestly it sounds really likely to me.
I think a lot about Things that Make Me Cough and too much saliva is one of the big ones. I had no idea dogs sweated in their mouths (explains a lot) but that makes a lot of sense.
yeah its not exactly sweating but like... whatever dogs do to release the heat is through the mouth and a couple of other places
I wouldn’t be worried. A few coughs overnight is probably just how he’s laying or postnasal drip or the myriad of dumb benign things that also make people cough occasionally
