because I have had an absolutely nightmarish two days and TREAT YO SELF
I totally didn't know Mackie was in it, his scene was DELIGHTFUL
and the train track fight scene was in the trailers but it was still hysterical to see it in full
God right? Ant-man really surprised me with how much I enjoyed it
I didn't think the villain was great and the hydra guys were just annoying, but all the other characters were so awesome
real talk though, how do you import an entire colony of bullet ants
I'm having this weird experience though where movies always feel... rushed?
I think I've gotten so used to the type of storytelling that can be done through TV that movies are starting to feel like nothing's ever developed quite enough
which is kind of frustrating
I can't remember the last time I came out of a movie and thought "yes, that was properly paced storytelling"
I always come away wishing that events/characters/motivations/plot developments/backstory/something had been more fleshed out
I like the ant-man movies because they remind us that the MCU does not have to be solely composed of existential man angst
sometimes you get to have Scotty failing epically and Luis being the best narrator
and every punny ant name that can be conceived of
yeah, it's nice to have a movie in the mcu that's lighter in tone and isn't gotg which, unpopular opinion, I hated
Luis and the cat-burglar squad were the best
yep I get that they're doing Serious Plots that require Serious Feels and I'm glad the actors get to stretch in that direction
but sometimes I as a fan need something light enough to still feel fun
I really liked Scott's relationship with his daughter/ex/ex's fiance. the little dinner scene at the end was great
it's a mess but it's so mundane and real and I think the mcu needed that
clint's Deux Ex Ship Blockade family aside, there's very little in the way of family relationships in the mcu so it was really nice to have a character grounded in that instead of I'm So Damaged And Alone, Who Will Help Me With All My Feefees
not that I don't love damaged people making found families
but a little contrast and character diversity is important in any ensemble cast
