so, the cruise was pretty cool, we saw lots of whales and a school of dall's porpoise who swam so close to the boat you could almost reach out and touch them

it u
the farallons are very interesting and there were tons of seals and sea lions
and also open ocean sea travel should be banned by the geneva convention
"2-3 foot swells" doesn't sound so bad does it? not sO BAD?? 2-3 FEET NOPE NOT BAD
thanks to the pharmaceutical miracle of Bonine, the makers of which will be receiving all of my assets in my will when I die, I wasn't actuall seasick
but, fun fact, antiemetics mean you don't get sick but they don't do anything to alter the feeling of bobbing up and down on the water like an 8hr long rollercoaster ride
which is still. as it turns out. immensely unpleasant
and while it was really nice that I didn't puke and I wouldn't trade that for the world, the side-effect of being on an 8-hr hurl-a-whirl and not being nauseous was that I felt like I was disassociating from reality the whole time instead
it got better once the second dose of bonine kicked in and I kind of got used to it (because for some physiological reason that I haven't figured out yet being tense makes the feeling about 3x worse) but hoooooo boy
the ride out to the islands
I'm going to have nightmares for the rest of my life
Look. I am with you on the antiemitics.
Because, I hate that feeling of nausea when you can't vomit to make it GO AWAY
I wasn't even nauseous it was just the swoopy feeling
I hate the swoopy feeling
people like this feeling?? they seek it out??? voluntarily??? this is the whole reason rollercoasters exist??????? mankind spits in the face of god
so yeah I'm very glad that I work with things that live in the mud close to shore
oh man
also I'm a dummy and forgot sunscreen, so I got sunburned, and also saltburn, and also I went home and slept for 12 hours and my eyes are super puffy
and I have to go out in public today and talk to people
I want to wear a sticker that says "I'm sorry I'm fine I haven't been crying, I just went on a cruise yesterday"
... why don't boats install stabilizers I never know
Hard to stabilize the ocean
But man that sounds awful
Yes but there are systems that actually make it so you don't... feel the movement as much
That or cheap owners SORRY I STUDIED THIS IN SCHOOL....
But seriously that sounds awful.
because stabilizing systems are insanely expensive and completely impractical for most applications
ouch
When I did just sailing on the Potomac which is comparably calm as a millpond I felt waves when I closed my eyes to sleep at night
Good luck getting me on anything smaller than a ferry
That's probably a wise idea yeah. Small boats suck...
ahahahahahaha am I the only person in this plurk who enjoys... all of that
like I sympathise if you don't, it's basically bouncing really hard for several hours straight
but as long as I've taken anti-seasick stuff I love that kind of thing I love boats I love the ocean
Amaraq confirmed for pod person
