i always figured connor would be an anxious adult. hank's harder to role swap while keeping some form of his issues intact, but connor would be one of those people who's really really successful and good at absolutely everything and way too anxious about being able to keep it up/improve at the rate amanda expects him to to enjoy it

adult=human idk why i swapped those two words

although if you wanted him in a similar emotional place to where hank is in canon you could have him fail in amanda's eyes somehow and see what he'd be like in the fallout from that. my preference would be to put him before that happens and have his arc be him breaking away from amanda and trying to learn to accept imperfections

when i wrote roleswap fic I decided to try and bring over hank's self worth issues by saying he as a prototype was designed to look like a normal middle aged person rather than a hot young model and i figure that would give anyone issues, being like the ONLY person in your whole sort of species who doesn't dress well (to blend in better) and has a gut

and all that stuff, although you could try to translate the fact that Hank doens't have good coping mechanisms for strong negative emotions, that could easily come up in a deviant-android situation

i guess if android hank showed obvious signs of emotion this version of human the tension would probably come from this version of human connor being certain that he's supposed to report Hank and not really understanding/not wanting to understand why he doens't want to do it

hank staying in a situation where he might get reported and disassembled instead of running away because he's worried about connor working himself to death and wants to look out for him

and then having to deal with having to hunt people he doesn't really believe should be taken in because connor takes a million years to accept that deviants are people and is terrified to not act like amanda says he should, like a proper detective-who's-going-places who doesn't get emotionally attached to human shaped toasters

this might be a good time to reread my dbh roleswap fic since i'm thinking about it but it wasn't really all I wanted it to be, although it was the absolute best I was capable of and I'm sort of proud of it

also i admit i don't really feel like I get connor as well as i get hank so my idea of him as human might be off

and also i'm in that stage of playing hank where it's been a while since I saw his canon and don't want to rewatch it so i worry about settling into fanon hank and not realizing

like i don't worry about it TOO much but it's there

i just can't make myself rewatch/reread things, and i am familiar enough with hank's scenes that rewatching them risks making them boring

in my roleswap fic i had cole still have existed except this time amanda's idea of helping connor deal with it was telling him to just move on and focus on work work work

damn it, the fic's first chapter has hank having gone to connor's home while a later chapter has hank seeing connor's home for the first time and there's no way/no point in figuring out how to edit it, damn it

oh well, the fic's not what i wanted it to be anyway so it's fine

ugh another mistake later on - when i had hank walk away from connor after the eden club i should have used that to change the situation somehow but instead i just had him come right back to investigating in the next chapter

i didn't know what else to do, so i probably couldn't have thought of anything better - like i said this fic was the best version of the story i was capable of. but eh :/
