Today on life with kiddo: Dinner time. We’ve been trying to train her not to ask for food she doesn’t have until she has eaten what’s in front of her. She has eaten a strawberry and now has a couple of pieces of Chinese-food sweet and sour chicken.
Kiddo: I want another strawberry! Me: Are you done with your chicken? Kiddo: Mm-hmm! Me: indicating her uneaten chicken Well what’s that then? Kiddo: Chicken!
This has been kind of difficult because she, A, keeps asking for food she doesn’t have while she still has food in front of her and/or wants to leave the table and B, regularly flips out at the mere suggestion that we remove any food that’s in front of her, no matter how uninterested she seems to be in finishing it.
I’m trying not to pressure her to finish everything we put in front of her or to eat her food faster than she’s inclined to, because fostering good eating habits, but she makes it hard sometimes.
