I think I know exactly who you're talking about
i was waffling on whether or not to tag you in this and be like YOU KNOW WHAT'S UP
Is it really bad that I'm like... I can think of several people who fit this bill tbh
now I'm panicking, wondering if I've ever accidentally done this
Brooklyn2181: we were definitely already friends when i was playing with this person but the fact that you know several people who do it is distressing lol
how do you even do that??
Idk who you are talking about but the fact that someone did this doesn’t seven surprise me. Which is distressing lol
analoren: this was definitely not accidental if it's any consolation! i'm sure you are fine <3

yay~
they would straight up write things like "she would never do anything like that" and "that was completely out of character for her" i mean it was super overt
use an hmd post or don't play with someone if you feel that damn strongly about it, asshole
my favorite though was once when their character called out mine for doing something "completely out of character" when my character did something they... canonically did. in an episode it turned out said rp partner had never seen.
in retrospect it is actually kind of hilarious
Iiiii will admit that I've done that to a lesser degree, but only after I tried to talk to the person OOCly and was blown off
ah yes, the person who played the main character of a series they never bothered actually watching in its entirety
the same person also wasn't trying to crit so much as force you to play your character the way they wanted you to
though my tags erred more towards "X had no idea why Y would make those assumptions, since the thing Y is referencing never actually happened...? Maybe they'd just been in (game) too long and got mixed up from events"
I'm sorry someone took that as a means to be like "NO UR WRONG"
ugh Ive had this happen lately, sadly enough
im sorry youve dealt with it
i think there is definitely a way to balance your character being confused at at another's character's reactions to things and using it as a PA platform to be shady
and like
Brooklyn2181 pointed out this person specifically did not like how my character was canonically written and hated that i didn't bend her characterization to play out specific things in they way she wanted me to
which ofc is not something i fully understood until way afterwards
bexxen: "a way to balance your character being confused at at another's character's reactions to things and using it as a PA platform to be shady"
yeah this like
if it were an actual case of IC confusion (rather than OOC shadiness), i would want to minimise the mental narration, maximise action. have the character blink in confusion, then out loud question it: "I don't get it. Why are you trusting X when he did xyz to us before?" /hypothetical example
turn it into an actual DIALOGUE and a chance for interaction. because when it's alllll in narration, then it's PA as hell and there's nothing the other writer can even do to address/respond to it
ohhh YEAH okay I've definitely seen people who get mad that another character is written ICly but in a way they don't like because they disagreed with canon
I've run into that a lot with players who try to use RP to "fix" things about canon they didn't like
I had someone do that with me. And then put negative crit on an HMD as themselves and again as an 'anonymous' person agreeing with the complaint.
Got me so turned around that I sent links to the threads to someone who knew the canon well but didn't rp there to see if I really was screwing up and they basically said, 'Um, well, that's what she does in canon, so. ..'
oh what the shit, that's bizarre
